History and Social Sciences Teacher Licensure

Requirements for Political Science Majors 

Students majoring in Political Science and seeking teacher licensure in History/Social Studies must meet the following content and methodology requirements:

Complete an endorsement in American Government

Complete an endorsement/minor in either American or World History:
  • American History:  Take HIST 221 and 222, and at least 9 additional credits from:  307, 351, 352, 353, 354, 355, 356, 360, 361, 386, 391(X), 450, 451, 462, 463, 464, 465, 466.  Other courses that apply:  240, 345, 365, 366, 370, 380, 389, 453, 454, 455, 456, 458, 459, 460, 461, 468, 469, 470, 471, 472, 473, 488, 489.
  • World History:  Take HIST 201 and 202 and at least 9 additional credits from:  304, 305, 325, 336, 337, 338, 340, 341, 402, 403, 404, 405, 406, 408, 410, 414, 417, 419, 420, 421, 422, 424, 425, 431, 441, 474, 479.  Other courses that apply:  207, 245, 280, 281, 323, 339, 383, 388, 390, 427, 428, 429(X), 442.
  • History course descriptions.

Complete all remaining History and Social Sciences core requirements.
Complete all remaining University Teacher Education Program requirements.
Complete any and all remaining requirements for a degree in Political Science.

In addition, students pursuing teacher licensure must:
  • Earn a grade of C or above in all History/Social Sciences content courses
  • Maintain a 2.5 or higher cumulative grade point average
